Why did I put her on such a pedestal with my kids. I’ll never learn.
Miley Cyrus has shown warning signs of crossing over the dark side of fame since her racy teenage photo shoot. That said, it should come as no surprise that since the final episode of Hannah Montana, she seems to be going out of her way to shed any remnants of her goody-two-shoes image. First, she channeled a stripper at the Teen Choice Awards, then her erotic performance in the Can’t Be Tamed video had critics across the globe comparing her to Britney Spears. Now, early reports on her new movie, LOL: Laughing Out Loud, prove that Cyrus can’t be tamed on the big screen as well.
Her character is reported to be sexually active, pot smoking, and seduces girls in a kissing scene. Recently, I questioned why all these ‘tween starlets have to grow up, and this is the very reason for my query. Young girls are still fans of Miley Cyrus, whether she’s Hannah or not. If they aren’t old – or persuasive – enough to see LOL, they’ll undoubtedly hear about Cyrus’s star turn from friends or the internet. Look, I understand that time waits for no one, especially the young and famous. Those stars seem hell-bent on proving themselves as serious, capable, mature actresses as soon as they outgrow their training bras. Unfortunately, many young impressionable girls are influenced by the goody-two-shoes of the past. Let’s face it, us moms are suckers for a shiny purity ring, a celibacy vow, and a declaration of strong family values.
This was a very good article. Isn’t it a shame that our values have lowered so that good girls have to show how bad they can be to make it in the movies.
Good article, and YES, it’s so important to think about how we treat celebriti-ism in our homes. (ok. yeah, I made that up.)
Britney and Justin did a duet together when they were in Mickey Mouse Club. Wish they’d do it again.
